Sri Lanka, Aug. 8 -- The final Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Perahera festival is scheduled to parade the streets of Kandy tonight (8).
Last night, the fourth Randoli Perahera began at 7:02 p.m. with a large number of local and foreign tourists in attendance. The sacred relic casket was carried by the elephant Wasana of the Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya.
On a separate note, an awards ceremony was held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic yesterday (7) to honour 27 elephants that have participated in the Perahera for over 40 years.
The ceremony was led by the Chief Custodian, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, and the first elephant to be awarded was Wasana, for its participation for over 50 years.
