Sri Lanka, July 9 -- Representatives of farmer organisations met with opposition leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday (08) at the parliamentary complex to discuss their issues.

Separately, a protest organised by the joint farmer organisations, including those from the Polonnaruwa district, took place in the town of Bakamuna.

Participants demanded a fixed price for paddy and a reduction in the prices of agricultural inputs.

Additionally, farmers from the Pulasthipura farmer union gathered at the ancient Minneriya Mahasen Devalaya this morning to perform a religious ritual involving the smashing of coconuts to seek divine intervention.
