Expressway seat belt grace period extended until September 19
Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- Cabinet approval was granted to amend the Motor Traffic (Expressways) Regulations No. 2 of 2011, aiming to minimise the number of deaths and injuries caused by road crashes occurring on expressways.
Relevant regulations were issued under provisions of the Motor Traffic Act making seat belt wearing mandatory for persons travelling on all seats of vehicles driven on expressways.
The concession period granted to enable proper fitting of seat belts for vehicles where seat belts were not fitted by manufacturers was scheduled to end on June 19.
However, taking into consideration requests made by relevant parties, that concession period was extended by another 03 months, until September 19.
