Sri Lanka, May 10 -- A fifteen-member expert committee was appointed to formulate a comprehensive national policy on medical education in Sri Lanka, recognising the strategic importance of strengthening medical training to meet national health requirements.

The committee comprises the following members:

Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo (Committee Chairman).

Professor Gominda Ponnamperuma, Standing Committee on Quality Assurance of the University Grants Commission.

Professor R. Surenthirakumaran, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Jaffna.

Professor M. Umakanth, Head of Department at the Faculty of Health Care Sciences of the Eastern University.
