Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- Former Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa has been further remanded until the 29th of this month on charges related to a bribery case.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.

The charges stem from a complaint alleging that the former minister influenced officials at the Damages Compensation Office to obtain 8.85 million rupees in compensation.

This was for a building on state-owned land in Sevanagala that was destroyed during the recent civil unrest.

The Bribery Commission informed the court that the property was on land belonging to the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority, and therefore, the alleged crime falls under the Public Property Act.
