Sri Lanka, May 18 -- A 78-year-old man died yesterday following a road mishap near the 174-kilometre post in the Thambalagamuwa police area on the Trincomalee to Ambepussa main road, police said.

The mishap occurred when a lorry travelling towards Trincomalee crashed into the back of a bicycle travelling in the same direction.

Although steps were taken to admit the cyclist to the Thambalagamuwa hospital with serious injuries, police said he was already dead by that time.

The driver of the lorry was arrested in connection with the incident, and officers of the Thambalagamuwa Police are conducting further investigations.
