Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- The Ministry of Education has issued a circular regarding the formal commencement of classes for students entering Grade 1 in 2026.

According to the circular, the formal commencement of Grade One classes for all students in Government schools, as well as Government-aided and non-aided private schools (Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim streams), is scheduled for Tuesday, 20 January 2026.

The Ministry has instructed that all selected Grade One students must be admitted to the school before this date.

The circular recommends that the official welcoming programme on January, 20, 2026 should include the following elements:

New students being welcomed by the Grade Two students.
