Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- Cricketer Dunith Wellalage has vowed to fulfil his late father's dream of him becoming a good cricketer and representing the country.

The young player made the statement to the media this morning, just before leaving his home to return to Dubai for the Asia Cup.

Wellalage had arrived in Sri Lanka to pay his final respects to his father, Suranga Wellalage, who passed away suddenly earlier this week.

In his statement, he said his father had given him great support from a young age, adding, "It was his only dream for me to play for the country and become a good cricketer. I will definitely fulfil his dream."
