Sri Lanka, July 15 -- Colombo Magistrate's Court has ordered the release on bail of Dr. Maheshi Wijerathne, a specialist doctor at Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, who was previously remanded on suspicion of corruption.

She was accused of selling surgical equipment to patients at inflated prices.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga issued the order after considering submissions from both Bribery Commission officials and the defence lawyers.

Accordingly, the suspect was ordered to be released on a cash bail of 50,000 rupees and two personal bails of five million rupees each.

She has also been prohibited from entering Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, and a travel ban has been imposed on her.
