Sri Lanka, July 30 -- A fundamental rights petition has been lodged with the Supreme Court, seeking to annul the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sri Lankan government and India for the digital identity card project.

Amani Rishad Hameed, a social activist, filed the petition.

The respondents named include the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Digital Economy, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, and the Cabinet of Ministers, among 27 others.

The petition states that two Cabinet decisions regarding this matter were made on January 27 and June 2, respectively, without informing the public or Parliament.
