Sri Lanka, July 19 -- One person died, and six others sustained serious injuries and faced hospitalisation following a road collision in the Wellamadama area in Matara this evening (19).

A lorry loaded with cement travelling from Dondra towards Matara and a Defender vehicle travelling from Matara towards Dondra collided head-on, police noted, adding that seven individuals travelled inside the Defender vehicle at the time of the collision.

The driver who steered the Defender vehicle died in the collision, while steps were taken to promptly hospitalise the other six injured individuals.

The condition of two among them remains serious, hospital sources noted.
