Sri Lanka, Aug. 24 -- Sri Lanka's Health Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa has blamed recent disruptions in the country's medical supply chain on procurement lapses by the previous administration.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dr Jayatissa said a failure to follow proper tender procedures last year had led to delays in importing essential medicines.

The government has released Rs. 35 billion to regional hospitals, enabling them to procure urgent medical supplies directly.

Officials hope this decentralised approach will help ease immediate pressure on the national system.
