Sri Lanka, Aug. 3 -- A CTB bus driver has been arrested by traffic police in Nuwara Eliya for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The bus, which belonged to the Diwulapitiya depot, was travelling from Welimada to Nuwara Eliya.

Traffic officers on duty in the Seetha Eliya area on the Nuwara Eliya-Badulla main road stopped the bus and found that the driver was heavily intoxicated.

He was immediately arrested.

At the time of the arrest, there was a large number of passengers on board.

Upon bringing the bus to the Nuwara Eliya police station for a search, officers found a can of illicit liquor hidden behind the driver's seat.

Police suspect that the driver was consuming alcohol while driving, under the guise of drinking water.
