Sri Lanka, May 11 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered the case against Shashi Weerawansa, wife of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, to be called on August 25 regarding allegations of obtaining an irregular diplomatic passport using forged documents.

The defendant, currently out on bail, appeared before the court during the proceedings.

Defense counsel Buddhika Chandrasekara informed the court of the need to inspect the computer system responsible for generating documents related to the litigation before evidence is presented. The lawyer argued that the trial cannot proceed as the defense was not granted such access under the Evidence Ordinance.
