Court sentences former IGP to death
Sri Lanka, July 31 -- Former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara received a death sentence over charges of failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attack despite receiving intelligence reports, neglecting official duties, and abetting murder.
A majority of the judges on the Colombo three-judge High Court bench delivered this ruling.
A majority of judges on the Colombo High Court three-judge bench imposed a death sentence on former police chief Pujith Jayasundara after finding him guilty of failing to prevent the Easter Sunday terrorist attack despite prior intelligence, neglecting official duties, and abetting murder.
Judges Priyantha Liyanage, Viraj Weerasuriya, and Thilakaratne Bandara heard the case.
