Sri Lanka, Aug. 15 -- Police will report to the Kahatagasdigiliya Magistrate's Court today (15) regarding the discovery of live T-56 ammunition and magazines hidden in the Getalawa reservoir.
The stash was initially discovered by a person collecting firewood, who alerted police after seeing the ammunition in the water.
Galenbidunuwewa police stated that they recovered 7,124 live rounds on that day and another 1,750 rounds yesterday (14).
The total number of rounds found is 8,874.
In addition, 11 magazines were also found in the reservoir.
The police said they will send the batch numbers on the rounds to the Ministry of Defence to determine if they were used during the war or if they originated from a police station.
