Sri Lanka, Aug. 20 -- The Department of Archaeology has been ordered to investigate whether a plot of land near a temple in the Thimbirigaskadavala area of Shravastipura is an archaeological site and submit a detailed report to the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate.
The order was issued yesterday by Chief Magistrate Nalaka Sanjeewa Jayasuriya, following a request from the Anuradhapura Headquarters Police for further clarification on the matter.
This is over a case of alleged treasure-hunting which involves several suspects, including the wife of a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
The suspects were taken into custody and remanded until August 26.
