Sri Lanka, July 16 -- Cow dung is emerging as a valuable source of clean energy through the production of compressed biogas (CBG), a renewable fuel that can replace conventional fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel. On average, the dung produced by a single cow each year can generate enough CBG to power a car for nearly 5,500 kilometres.

The process involves collecting cow dung and converting it into biogas through anaerobic digestion. The methane-rich gas is then purified and compressed into CBG, which has properties similar to compressed natural gas (CNG) and can be used to fuel vehicles or supply clean energy to homes and villages.
