Sri Lanka, April 23 -- A formal complaint was submitted to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) today (22) via email, calling for an extensive investigation into the reported redirection of $2.5 million from the General Treasury to computer hackers.
The organisation "Sathya Gaveshakayo" lodged the complaint, asserting that the internal technical committee formed by the relevant department is insufficient to address the gravity of the incident.
Reports indicate that the Treasury attempted to pay a portion of a $22.9 million debt owed to a foreign nation.
Between December 2025 and January 31, 2026, a sum of $2.5 million was processed; however, instead of reaching the intended creditor, the funds were intercepted by a third party.
