Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced that Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees who do not wish to join the four state-owned companies formed under the restructuring of the CEB can leave with compensation.

He made this statement in response to a question from a journalist during a press briefing yesterday (23) on Cabinet decisions regarding the ongoing electricity trade union action.

All leave for CEB employees has been canceled with immediate effect.

Employees are continuing their trade union action for the 19th consecutive day, despite a gazette notification issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake declaring all electricity-related services as essential.
