Sri Lanka, Oct. 21 -- Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya today (21) presented a new gazette to Parliament, formalising an increase in the levy charged from casino owners.
This move, which implements a proposal from the 2025 budget, will see the tax rise from the current 10% to 18%,, effective from October 01.
In addition to the tax hike on operators, the entrance fee for Sri Lankan citizens is set to double.
Locals will now be charged USD100, up from the previous USD50.
The new regulations, however, will see no change to the entrance fees for foreigners. The tabling of this gazette gives legal force to the government's plans to boost revenue from the gambling sector.
