Sri Lanka, Aug. 11 -- The procurement of coal for the Norochcholai Lakvijaya Power Plant received approval from the Cabinet of Ministers to fulfil 2026/2027 requirements.

Approval to secure 2.28 million metric tonnes of coal was granted by the Cabinet at its meeting on March 30, ensuring uninterrupted supply and safeguarding national energy security.

The selection of two suppliers followed an international competitive bidding process that attracted nine bids, authorised by the National Procurement Commission.

Based on recommendations from the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee, the proposal of the Minister of Power to award contracts was endorsed by the Cabinet as follows:
