Sri Lanka, Sept. 22 -- The Cabinet meeting held on 7 April 2025 had previously given approval for the Department for Registration of Persons to execute the procurement process for purchasing these cards. Bids were subsequently called under international competitive procurement methodology, drawing 8 submissions.

Following bid evaluation, Germany-based Muhlbauer ID Services GmbH was selected as the substantially responsive bidder on the recommendation of the high-level procurement committee. The contract to procure the 5 million pre-printed polycarbonate cards is set to be awarded to the company for a sum of 4.93 million Euros.
