Sri Lanka, May 19 -- The Cabinet has approved the purchase of 15,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer required for the Yala season through the Agrarian Services Committee of the Department of Agrarian Development.

Although it was initially estimated that 550,000 hectares of paddy land would be cultivated in the 2026 Yala season, it is expected that it will be between 450,000 and 500,000 hectares based on the current situation.

It is estimated that approximately 75,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer will be required for this.
