Sri Lanka, Oct. 17 -- The Bribery Commission yesterday (16) arrested an Agricultural Research and Production Assistant attached to the Diyaluma Agrarian Services Centre for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs. 3.5 million and accepting Rs. 1.2 million to issue a receipt for the payment of lease fees for an acre of cultivation land and facilitate necessary arrangements.

The Bribery Commission stated that the suspect had previously accepted Rs. 1 million from the complainant.

The suspect was arrested inside a restaurant in the Ethiliwewa town on the Thanamalwila Wellawaya Road.

The investigation began based on a complaint lodged by an individual residing in Mahawa.
