Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- Water in the Bowatenna Reservoir, the main water source feeding the Kala Wewa basin, will be emptied starting August 24 due to essential maintenance work.

Engineer-in-charge Buddhika Mahesh stated that the release of water aims to remove accumulated silt from the reservoir.

Taking advantage of the prevailing dry weather conditions, authorities are conducting these repairs, with current water levels already dropped to eleven million cubic meters, he noted.

The necessary maintenance activities will take three weeks to complete, and refilling of the reservoir will commence on the 14th of next month, he added.
