Sri Lanka, July 30 -- The Borella Police yesterday (29) informed the Colombo Traffic Magistrate's Court that the driver of the crane involved in the July 28 fatal road accident near the Borella Cemetery drove the vehicle knowing its brakes were not working.
Police also stated that the incident could have been prevented had the vehicle been turned left into the cemetery before the collision.
The court has ordered the crane driver, arrested in connection with the incident, to be remanded until August 7.
The owner of the crane was released on a surety bond of Rs. 500,000.
Police confirmed to the court that one person died and seven others were seriously injured in the accident, with six motorcycles and two cars sustaining damage.
