Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- Employees of the Bank of Ceylon Employees' Union's Puttalam District Branch staged a torchlight protest and a "divine plea" demonstration in the centre of Chilaw last night (9).

Organisers stated that the torchlight protest and plea were held to pressure the government to provide a solution to the ongoing and looming crisis faced by state banks in the country.

Employees from several state banks within the Puttalam District participated in the protest.
