Sri Lanka, Oct. 16 -- Sri Lanka is currently receiving the required stocks of bitumen from Europe and China, Road Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Sunil Bandaranayake stated.

The RDA previously faced a severe bitumen shortage after relying exclusively on Iran for its asphalt and road construction supplies, as transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz remained closed.

In response, the government imported bitumen samples from several nations-including China, Europe, and Thailand-for quality testing and secured necessary approvals.

The RDA confirmed that islandwide road development and maintenance work will return to normal in a short period as shipments arrive.
