Sri Lanka, Sept. 27 -- Sri Lanka joined the global celebration of World Tourism Day today (27) with a special ceremony at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.

The event, organised by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, welcomed arriving foreign visitors with gift packs of tea and cake, along with traditional dance performances.

Director Anusha Damayanthi, who attended as chief guest, said that so far this year, Sri Lanka has received 1.7 million international tourists.

The programme, which began at 9 a.m., continued until noon inside the airport's arrivals terminal.
