Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- The new cardiology unit and the renovated gastroenterology and liver unit at the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital have been opened to the public.

The ceremony was led by Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, and was attended by the Eastern Province Governor and other dignitaries.

The new five-story building, constructed at a cost of Rs. 324 million, includes clinics, x-ray facilities, ECG, a cath lab, a coronary care unit (CCU), and surgical theaters.

It also houses two wards with 80 beds.

This will enable the people of the Eastern Province to access better-quality cardiac care.
