Sri Lanka, July 25 -- Statements made in Parliament yesterday by ruling party MP Asitha Niroshana Egoda Vithana against Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya are completely false, baseless, and malicious, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka announced.

The BASL expressed its deep concern over making such statements using parliamentary privileges to mislead the public, according to the announcement.

Accordingly, the association stated that it challenges the MP to step outside parliamentary privilege and repeat the statement outside Parliament.

If done, the association emphasised that appropriate legal action will be taken against it.
