Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has written to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to clarify its position regarding the reported move to cancel the Lawyers' Car Passes displayed on the front windscreens of vehicles.
The letter, issued by BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya and Secretary Chathura Galhena, states that any attempt to enforce the removal of these passes based on a recent Gazette notification would be contrary to law.
The BASL asserts that the scope and purpose of the relevant Gazette Order are not applicable to the Lawyers' Car Passes, as they do not violate any provision of the Motor Traffic Act.
