Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has urged the government to introduce "Law" as a subject in the national education curriculum. In a letter to Education Minister and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the BASL stated that Law should be a compulsory subject in primary education and an elective at the G.C.E. Advanced Level.

The association noted that this move would be a key foundation for civic awareness and democratic engagement, and expressed its readiness to assist the Ministry of Education in designing a culturally relevant and academically rigorous curriculum.
