Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has rejected the bail application of the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Okkampitiya Police Station, who was arrested for allegedly accepting a Rs. 40,000 bribe from a sand businessman.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali ordered the suspect to be further remanded until August 25.

During the court hearing today (18), the suspect's lawyer requested bail, citing the special circumstance that his client's daughter is sitting for the GCE Advanced Level examination.

However, officials from the Bribery Commission opposed the request, stating that investigations are still ongoing.
