Sri Lanka, Feb. 8 -- Kalutara South Police have launched an investigation into a failed assassination attempt targeting Bandula Prasanna, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) candidate for the Kalutara Municipal Council.

The incident occurred at the candidate's hotel located at the Nagoda junction, where an unidentified assailant reportedly attempted to open fire from the rear of the premises while police officers were stationed at a security post in the front.

According to police reports, the suspect's firearm failed to discharge during the attempt.

This marks the second time Prasanna has been targeted, following a similar unsuccessful shooting during the local government election period nine months ago. Investigators recovered a live pisto...
