Sri Lanka, Aug. 2 -- Army Commander has visited the Mahara prison to observe the status of the current situation and the ongoing security operations, the Army Media Unit stated.

The Air Force Media Spokesperson stated that a Bell 412 helicopter and drones have been deployed to monitor the situation.

An unrest situation arose within the Mahara Prison in the afternoon of Saturday, August 1.

It is reported that this situation emerged when a group of relatives had come to visit an inmate, another group of inmates have thrown stones out of the prison.

The Police, the Police Special Task Force, and the Riot Suppression Unit were called into control the situation.
