Sri Lanka, July 28 -- The Court of Appeal today, (28) ordered that the petition filed by Retired Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi, former Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, be called on September 3 for consideration.

Mallawaarachchi is seeking to quash the indictment filed against him by the Attorney General in the Colombo High Court.

The indictment accuses him of aiding and abetting the alleged misappropriation of government funds during the 2015 Presidential Election.

This involved the purchase of 14,000 carrom boards and 11,000 draughts boards for political purposes, which were then distributed to the political offices of the then-Presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa.
