Sri Lanka, Oct. 24 -- A Court of Appeal ruling today (24) has commanded Sri Lanka Customs to quickly finalise its probe into the engine capabilities of the BYD vehicles it is currently holding.
The court, led by its President, Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, stressed the importance of Customs securing tax revenue for the national economy.
However, Justice Abeysuriya also made clear that the court must take into account the interests of the importing firms and the prospective vehicle owners.
The ruling came during proceedings for a petition lodged by a private company seeking the release of its detained vehicles.
Justice Abeysuriya directed the petitioner to collaborate fully with the inquiry to ensure its prompt resolution.
