Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- The Sri Lankan Government is taking steps to appeal the death sentence imposed on Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa in Saudi Arabia, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath informed Parliament today.

Legal proceedings concerning Sivarasa remain ongoing before judicial authorities in Saudi Arabia, with the Court of Appeal delivering its verdict on September 17, 2026.

Efforts are underway to prepare and submit an appeal before the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia with the intervention of the Sri Lankan Government. A legal team from Sri Lanka and Saudi legal consultants are assisting with the appeal.
