Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- A total of 54 live rounds of ammunition were discovered hidden inside the letterbox of a locked house belonging to a retired Police Inspector at the Mattegoda Kalakaru Housing Complex.

The cache included:

48 live rounds used for T-56 assault rifles.

6 live rounds used for 9mm firearms.

The ammunition was found when the retired officer arrived to check his mail and noticed that his letterbox had been newly padlocked.

With the assistance of another young man, he broke the lock and opened the letterbox, where the stash of live ammunition was discovered.

Police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the person who brought the live ammunition and concealed it at this location.
