Sri Lanka, April 10 -- Liquor stores across the island will remain closed on April 13 and 14 in view of the upcoming Sinhala and Hindu New Year, according to Excise Commissioner General M.B.N.A. Pemarathne.
All establishments licensed to sell alcohol, including liquor shops, wine stores, hotels and restaurants serving alcohol, and karaoke bars, must shut down for these two days under this government-approved order.
Strict legal action will be taken under the Excise Act against any licensee who violates this directive and sells alcohol during the New Year period, the Commissioner General further stated.
