Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- A three-judgebench of the Colombo High Court bench has sentenced Samarappulige Niraj Roshan, also known as Ali Roshan, to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment.

He was found guilty on two charges of possessing an elephant without a valid license.

In addition to the prison term, the court ordered him to pay a fine of Rs. 2,060,000 and also ordered the forfeiture of the elephant to the state.

The verdict was delivered by the three-judge bench, which included Justices Manjula Thilakaratne, R.S.S. Sapuwida, and Lanka Jayaratne, following a lengthy trial. The court also acquitted three other defendants who had been charged in connection with the same case.
