Sri Lanka, Oct. 27 -- Two employees of a catering company were arrested this morning (27) by officers of the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau for attempting to smuggle out a consignment of foreign-manufactured cigarettes worth Rs. 9 million from the Katunayake International Airport.
The suspects, aged 29 and 30, are residents of Matara and Veyangoda respectively. They had arrived at the airport at 12:30 AM aboard SriLankan Airlines flight UL 232 from Dubai.
Police revealed that the duo had concealed 300 cigarette cartons, containing 60,000 foreign-made cigarettes of the "Manchester" and "Platinum" brands, in their luggage.
