Sri Lanka, Sept. 21 -- The immigration computer system at Katunayake Airport is now fully operational again.

The system, which broke down at 1:45 p.m. yesterday, was restored at 4:15 p.m., after being offline for about two and a half hours.

The disruption caused significant delays at both the arrival and departure counters, causing major inconvenience for travelers.

According to Immigration Department sources, the eight-year-old system, which is maintained by a private company, fails multiple times every month and frequently slows down in the afternoons.

The sources are calling for a new, government-installed and maintained system, particularly during this period of high tourist arrivals.
