Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- A court in Colombo has ordered the remand of two agricultural officers accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 300,000.
The suspects - Sujeewa Lal Kumara, an Agricultural Development Officer, and Wasantha Kumara, an Agricultural Research Assistant - were attached to the Andiambalama Agrarian Services Office in Katunayake.
According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), the two officials allegedly demanded the bribe to issue a certificate stating that a 50-perch paddy land was no longer classified as paddy land.
They were arrested in a sting operation after reportedly accepting the money from the complainant.
