Sri Lanka, June 11 -- Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Prasanna Gunasena told Parliament on (11) that financial losses at several Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots are mainly driven by their rural locations, which result in lower passenger demand and fewer daily bus operations.

Responding to a parliamentary question, he said the government has already begun implementing a more structured operational system to address the issue.

He also pointed out that the poor condition of the SLTB bus fleet has increased maintenance and repair needs, creating a heavy financial burden and contributing to ongoing losses.
