Sri Lanka, June 26 -- Indika Jayalath, a member of the independent group that supported the ruling party in securing control of the Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabha, has submitted his resignation as Deputy Chairman to the council's Chairman, Lalith Kumarasinghe, today (26).

Jayalath said he had chosen to resign on the very day marking one year since he assumed office as Deputy Chairman.

In his resignation letter, he also announced his withdrawal from the Finance and Policy Committee and the Technical Services Committee.

Jayalath cited several reasons for his decision, including the failure to implement plans to properly redevelop Agalawatta town, leaving the town in a neglected condition.
