Sri Lanka, Aug. 26 -- The Attorney General has informed the Supreme Court that the proposed Presidents' Entitlements Bill does not aim to remove the pension rights of former presidents.

The bill, instead, seeks to curtail the additional privileges granted to former presidents and their widows under the existing law.

Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne, appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, made these remarks during the hearing of seven Special Determination petitions challenging the constitutionality of the proposed legislation.

The three-judge Supreme Court bench hearing the case was comprised of Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justice Achala Wengappuli, and Justice Sampath Abayakoon.
