Sri Lanka, April 7 -- Eighty-six cases of child abuse reached police stations within the Elpitiya Police Division during 2025, the Elpitiya Police Women's Bureau reports.

Women Police Sergeant Nishadi Lakmali stated that six schoolgirls became pregnant following these incidents, adding that mobile phone usage contributed to many reported cases. These details emerged during a workshop on child savings and protection organized by the Sri Lanka Korea Friendship Association for children from low-income families at the Elpitiya Ananda Maha Vidyalaya auditorium.
